Laura grew up in a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio and has an undergraduate degree from Cornell University in Human Development and Family Studies. She went straight to graduate school and earned a M.S. from Miami University in Family Studies and Social Work. With the dream of becoming a college professor, Laura started a doctoral program at the University of Minnesota. However, while in Minnesota, Laura was introduced to the profession of family life education and became passionate about it.
After deciding to change her field of study, Laura earned a M.A. from the University of Minnesota in Work, Community and Family Education. She returned to her home state of Ohio and worked at multiple social service agencies and educational organizations, including Ohio State University Extension, GLSEN, and Jewish Family Services. Her interest in family life, parenting education, and diversity were finally combined in 2002 when Laura founded Mind Seed. The mission of Mind Seed is to deliver outstanding opportunities for learning, reflection, and growth for all.
Laura shares family duties with her husband of 25 years. They have a son who is 13 and a daughter who is 11. The family lives in Southwestern Ohio with 1 dog, 2 cats, 1 rabbit, and a leopard gecko. They enjoy spending time together, especially when they are exploring new places, reading, playing board games, hiking, and just being outdoors.
